Creating and Editing Tracking Codes

In built into CompleteEmpire is the ability to comprehensively track new activity as well as link that to costing analysis to  properly assess the effectiveness of campaigns and marketing spend.

You have the ability to create an unlimited number of Marketing Campaigns to ensure sources and expenditure can be appropriately clustered, managed and reported upon.

Tracking Codes are an essential element of marketing management as they allow you to create a preset code that can be attached to any online links (websites, banners, emails etc) so that when someone clicks the link and comes to your website,  the tracking code will track and automatically update the source of the activity/enquiry that the visitor subsequently makes.

Tracking Codes tab

  1. Create New  -  create a new tracking code for the the Marketing Campaign that is selected and visible on the screen at the time of creation.
  2. Refresh  -  click to refresh the panel after adding a new tracking code.
  1. Tracking Code display window -  use to copy or drag tracking and GA code to your Expense Campaign or EDM.
  2. Edit -  opens the Tracking Code edit window.
  3. Delete - delete the Tracking Code.
  4. Generate Return Web Address  -  open a window to enter the public website return address, the address that you want the link to open.

Creating a Tracking Code

  1. Name  -  name the tracking code with a relevant description (i.e. Facebook Home Page Link).
  2. Source  -  select the Source from your preset list (or go to System Lookups to add a new one if required).
  3. Source Origin  -  type in any specific descriptions unique to this Tracking Code (ie Facebook Post on a specific topic). Optional.
  4. Google Analytics Code  -  you have the ability to add your Google Analytics Code to the tracking code so that both can be included in any links created. Optional.
  5. Click [OK] to save.

Tip: The more detailed you make your Source and Source Origin the more effective your reporting and analysis will be.

Editing and Using Tracking Codes

  1. Copy -  you can use the copy icon to copy the Tracking Code or Google Analytics (GA) Code onto your clipboard.
  2. Edit  - use to edit the tracking codes or add a GA code.
  3. Delete - delete the Tracking Code.
  4. Generate Return Web Address - click to open new window.
  5. Generate Return Web Address - type or paste the URL of the page you would like the link to land upon in the field.
  6. Click [Generate] and then press “Enter” on your keyboard. That will copy the link including the tracking code into your clipboard so it can be pasted in an email or link box as applicable.

Assigning Tracking Code to Expense Campaign

 Once created, any Tracking Code can be assigned to an Expense Campaign by dragging it across to the Expense Campaign of relevance. Note a Tracking Code can only be assigned to one Expense Campaign, so create a new Tracking Code for each Expense Campaign even if it has similar Source & Source Origin.   1. If this is done accidentally, then you can unlink the pairing by clicking on [Unassign Tracking Code]  - the broken chain icon to the right of the Campaign Type.
