The Survey design module is a very powerful tool for generating simple and complex surveys. The advanced features are beyond the initial scope of this Knowledge Base and further information can be obtained on request including training. This article should enable you to generate simple surveys and, with experience and use, develop the skills to prepare complex and highly customised surveys.
The best way to learn is to open the survey designer module and practice developing simple surveys using the tools provided. Use the preview tab to see how your survey will be presented to your audience.
- Highlight the survey you just created or that needs editing.
- Click [Design] - Opens the design area where you can create or edit the survey questions and answers.
Designer
In the Survey Designer tool opens in a full page window a the Design tab where a number of intuitive tools are available to assist you in creating your surveys quickly.
- The initial view is the Designer tab or page.
- Form work area - all fields are free entry and placing your pointer in any field will highlight further controls for placements, editing text and further actions that can be applied.
- The right panel is your guide and you can navigate using the navigation tool top right and enter and set parameters for each question, title blocks etc,
- survey question design tools available from the General Toolbox - click to add questions based on the available tools that offer different formats and selections type for those questions refer to table below.

Each of the above selections will self create the question and answer box, where you simply over-type the Question display with your actual question and type in the required answer options as applicable.

Custom Toolbox Tab - where you can use preset common questions to save retyping/re-creating each time.
Preview your survey
At any time you can preview and test the survey including checking how the survey is presented on a range of mobile phones and tablets as well as your desktop.
- Click on the {Preview} tab - opens the test or preview window
- Click [Complete] to close the preview and open a new window with the survey results.
- Choose device - select using the drop down menu the device on which you want to preview your survey presentation on. A new window will provide a portrait or landscape view of the survey as presented on the chosen device.
- [Show invisible elements] - shows those elements of your survey which are dependent on answers and are ordinarily hidden.
The survey is automatically saved as you create it.
