The CompleteEmpire Email/EDM system utilises ‘Skins’ and a ‘Builder Module’ to assist you in branding and constructing your electronic communications.
The email content is created using either the builtin EDM builder module or can be created externally.
Email Skins are like a wrapper or a template for your email content can be applied if required.
Emails view:
- Click Connect>Communications>Emails to open the Emails grid view.
- Select the Email and click the triangle to open a window to view the email details.
- Detail window - edit the emails name and use a skin if required.
- Work Area Quick button group - [Create New], [Clone], [Preview], [EDM Builder], [Edit], [Delete], [Refresh].
- Search and Actions Panel - opens automatically when the Emails view is selected. Open and Close using the left and right arrow icon. Use to search for email EDM, add test email addresses and send a test email to check formatting and obtain approvals.
- Shortcut to the Campaign module and Email Skins nodules.
Work Area Quick button group.
- [Create New] - click to commence process of creating a new email EDM by selecting the type. Also prompts you to decide if you wish to use the internal EDM builder or not.
- [Clone] - click to copy and existing email EDM and select the type.
- [Preview] - Opens the highlighted email EDM in a new window to preview.
- [EDM Builder] or [Code Editor] - this button function (& icon) changes dependent one whether during the creation process you chooses to use the built in EDM Builder or an external HTML code editor. The icon will change dependent on the initial choice. You cannot change your mind later.
- [Edit] - Opens the highlighted email EDM details view.
- [Delete] - Deletes the highlighted work. Opens a confirmation window "Are you sure?" [Yes]/[No].
- [Refresh] - Refresh the displayed screen to review changes.
When the [Create New] button is selected the choice is presented "Would you like to use the EDM Builder to design the email?" Click [Yes]/[No].
The EDM Builder is a WYSIWYG HTML editor that allows you to edit the content in a form that looks the same when it is displayed or printed. The alternative is to use a Code editor where text is entered to create the HTML code used to create a web page. It also allows the copy and paste of code from external text and HTML editors.
You must decide which tools to use as it cannot be changed at a later date.
New email window - the title reflects the email type:
- Title - enter a title for your reference.
- Subject - this is the subject line of your email.
- Email Skin - if required select the Email Skin to use with your campaign email EDM.
- Language - select from the drop down list English/Simplified Chinese.
- [Save] - click to save and return to the Newsletter grid view.
- When the [Clone] button is selected the question is asked "Are you sure?" Click [Yes]/[No].
New cloned email window:
- Title - enter a title for your reference.
- Subject - this is the subject line of your email.
- Email Skin - if required select the Email Skin to use with your email EDM.
- Language - select from the drop down list English/Simplified Chinese.
- [Save] - click to save and return to the email grid view.
- Select a display device from the drop down list to review the approximate display for that device.
- Click to close and return to the Emails grid view.
Note the preview is an indication only and ideally you should test the email presentation using a real world device.
When a email is created using the EDM Builder and the [Edit] button is selected the email will open directly in the EDM builder. Likewise if created with the Code Editor is will only open in the Code Editor.
EDM Builder Option.
- Work area or canvas. As elements are added various tools and elements are highlighted, revealed and options made available.
- Pre configured elements or snippets are accessible via the right hand pull out panel that can be dragged and dropped onto the work area or canvas.
- Action buttons include Auto Save Off /On; Save, View Code and Go Back. Always ensure the work is saved and use Go Back to return to the Newsletter grid view.
EDM Builder is a built in editor that has many features and tools to enable you to build your email including merge elements, pictures, links internal and external and many many more features. For further assistance in using the EDM Builder refer to your System Administrator or to Empire Software Pty Ltd. A knowledge of using similar editors and a basic understanding of EDM email and newsletter creation and the use of HTML would be expected.
The EDM builder tool can be used to create your EDM. You can import images, externally created code use the element tools to build a professional email. There are many options and this is article is designed to give a very basic overview. It to shows you where to start your journey of creativity. - Click the tab to open the Snippits panel with a selection of predefined blocks that can be dragged and dropped into the main work area.
- Selected the block group and select the pre configured template and drag and drop into the work area
- Once the email has been created use the panel buttons on the left to [Save], [View Code] and [Go Back] the latter will return to CompleteEmpire Emails skins grid view.
To reveal the various setting options click on the content block once.
- Quick icon tools - each content block can be moved, deleted edited to suit your requirements.
- Settings/ element tool - click the setting cog to open a new panel to the right. This offers a number of element options to change appearance, content attributes, format etc.
- Formatting Toolbar - text formatting, image management and preferences tools.

- Expand the toolbar to show more formatting options by clicking the {More} 3 dots ellipsis icon.
- Click the {Preferences} spanner icon to open the preferences window to select a number of global options.
[Go Back] will return to CompleteEmpire Emails skins grid view without saving your work. Click [Save] to save your work!
