Scenario: A new staff originated opportunity would be an opportunity created by a member of staff during their day to day normal work activity for work that may be outside their normal remit. Example of the latter would be a Property Manager creating an opportunity for Finance work. In this example the account already exists.
There are two quick ways to create a new opportunity -
- From the Work Area Header Quick Button - available in every CompeteEmpire work activity area.
- From the Opportunity Work Area Quick buttons.
It is always good practice when creating a new opportunity to first check if there is an existing account. Use Supersearch before starting the create new opportunity process .
Create a New Opportunity from Work Area Header Quick Button
- Click [Create New] button in the Work Area Header.
- Click Opportunity in the drop down menu to open a New Opportunity window.

- Click [Create New] + icon, to open a New Opportunity window.

- Search for an existing account - enter at least 3 letters of the name into the account field, alternatively enter the phone or email address into the account field
- Click to [Filter By] to search by Name (default), Email or Mobile.
It is assumed that a new staff opportunity will be created using an existing account proceed to Create a New Opportunity below but if not then proceed to New Account below
The New Account window opens inside the New Opportunity window when the [Create New] + button is clicked in the New Opportunity window. This is a quick entry window for the account set up.

- Click [Create New] which will open an additional window New Account.
Create a New Opportunity
- Account - select from the filtered drop down list.
- Type - click {Select the Type} from the drop down list. This field is provided to allow your business to define an expressed area of interest for the opportunity.
- Referred By - click and select the person who referred the opportunity to the business, can be an employee and by default is you. Optionally click Filter By to search by Name (default), Email or Mobile.
- Referred To - click and select the person who should undertake an action in respect of the opportunity. Optionally click Filter By to search by Name (default) Email or Mobile.
- Date - Enter date of creation. Default is the current date.
- Source/Origin - click and select from the choices presented in the drop down lists for the leads source and source origin.
- [Tick Box] - {I confirm that I am the catalyst & creator of this opportunity?}. Note an example when this is not relevant could be a receptionist or staff member who in their everyday duties is expected to enter the opportunity into CompleteEmpire.
- [Tick Box] - {Notify upon saving?} The tick box is only presented when the 'Referred To' field is completed and then will open the email window addressed to the referred person and it will be pre-populated with the opportunity details.
- Click OK - (only if the Opportunity Notification window is not presented.
Source & Source Origin (Pt 10 above) are important entries to ensure you properly know where the lead has come from.
Catalyst and Creator (Pt 11 above) is to be ticked if you have actively worked to initiate the referral. This means you expressly sought and took action to bring the opportunity of new work for the business.
If you selected the [Tick Box] - "Notify upon saving?" which is only presented when the 'Referred To' field is completed (Pt 8 above) then a email window Opportunity Notification? addressed to the referred person and pre-populated with the opportunity details will open.
Opportunity Notification window opens in an email and is addressed to the referred person and pre-populated with the opportunity details. The subject and body text are editable fields.
- [Tick Box] - {CC "name"} provides the ability to copy the email to the potential client.
- [Tick Box] - {Go to edit page?} provides the ability to proceed directly to the Account Edit page rather than staying within the Opportunities grid view.
- Click [OK] - to close and save the opportunity.
The opportunity now exists as an account on the system with a contact log of the interaction with the opportunity and if you have referred the opportunity to someone then you have the ability to notify them and/or the referrer.
Note as the referrer of the opportunity it is still incumbent on you to monitor the opportunity and followup with the referrer if needed until the opportunity is advanced to an Enquiry.
