How to Create an Email - EDM

The CompleteEmpire Email/EDM system utilises ‘Skins’ and a ‘Builder Module’ to assist you in branding and constructing your electronic communications.

Although not essential it is good practice to use a email Skin or template that defines your corporate image and included essential and sometimes legally required information such as unsubscribe option for the recipient.

The process of creation is the same for both but if using a skin then this must be created prior to the creation of the email EDM.

Emails view:

  1. Click Connect>Communications>Emails to open the Emails grid view.
  2. Click [Create New] and select the type of email. For example the with a Campaign email this will be available when building a campaign. Create New
  3. Select type and a new window will open to commence process of creating a new email EDM. Also prompts you to decide if you wish to use the EDM builder or not.

The EDM Builder is a WYSIWYG HTML editor that allows you to edit the content in a form that looks the same when it is displayed or printed. The alternative is to use a Code editor where text is entered to create the HTML code used to create a web page. It also allows the copy and paste of code from external text and HTML editors.

  1. When the [Create New] button is selected the choice is presented "Would you like to use the EDM Builder to design the email?" Click [Yes]/[No].

You must decide which tools to use as it cannot be changed at a later date.

New email window  -  the title reflects the email type:

  1. Title  -  enter a title for your reference.
  2. Subject  -  this is the subject line of your email.
  3. Email Skin  -  if required select the Email Skin  to use with your email EDM.
  4. Language -  select from the drop down list English/Simplified Chinese.
  5. [Save]  -  click to save and return to the Newsletter grid view.  
  1. Start process of preparing your news letter using the many content creation, block templates and formatting tools available. Refer to EDM Builder for a brief insight into the available options.
  2. Click [Save] to save the work which can always be edited later.
  3. Click [Go Back] to return to the Email list view. You have now created your email EDM.

EDM Builder is a built in editor that has many features and tools to enable you to build your newsletter including merge elements, pictures, links internal and external and many many more features. For further assistance in using the EDM Builder refer to your System Administrator or to Empire Software Pty Ltd. A knowledge of using similar editors and a basic understanding of newsletter creation and the use of HTML would be expected.

  1. Click [Clone]  -  this will allow you to clone the highlighted email.
  2. Select type of email EDM.
  3. When the [Clone] and type selected the question is asked "Are you sure?"  Click [Yes]/[No]. The clone (copy) will be created and the Edit email window will open.

Edit email window:

  1. Title  -  enter a new title for your reference.
  2. Subject  -  this is the subject line of your email.
  3. Email Skin  -  if required select the Email Skin  to use with your email EDM.
  4. Language -  select from the drop down list English/Simplified Chinese.
  5. [Save]  -  click to save and return to the email grid view.

Dependent on the choices made when the email was initially created the button to edit the highlighted email will change from a ruler icon to a </> icon

  1. Highlight the email to be edited click [EDM Builder] if it was originally created using the EDM builder and will open it for editing.
  2. Highlight the email to be edited click [Code Editor] if it was originally created using the Code Editor and will open it for editing.
