How to add and edit Relationships

Updated on

Relations

Relations links accounts of relevance, but also accounts of reference to the current account.

It is essential for every account that any relevant or related accounts are identified and added as well as the type of relationship (spouse, partner, employee, brother, sister, parent, beneficiary, trustee, owner/shareholder etc) as well as the reciprocal relationship (what the the relationship would be the other way  around). Using a single entry both relationships can be recorded in both accounts simultaneously.

It is also important to use Relations when an account goes through divorce or separation. Remember keep the existing account unchanged, and create a new account for each individual with relation back to the combined account as “Former Relationship/Marriage” so their new activity goes under their new personal name account, but the historical info remains in the former account as it should be. It is important that Relations are updated (especially when setting up new entities for clients) so you can easily see all the related activity of a client. Use Relations to add connections that the account has informally with other accounts and entities. Use Linked Entities where the account has a controlling influence over the an entity.
